Uterine prolapse surgery

What is Uterine Prolapse Surgery?

Uterine prolapse is the downward displacement of the uterus from its normal position. This can occur due to weakness or damage to the uterus and surrounding support tissues. Uterine prolapse surgery is a surgical intervention to reposition and support the uterus.

Causes of Uterine Prolapse

  1. Birth and Postpartum: After a normal delivery or caesarean section, there may be weakness in the pelvic floor muscles and ligaments.
  2. Aging During the aging process, the pelvic floor tissues naturally weaken and the risk of uterine prolapse increases.
  3. Hormonal Changes: Especially during menopause, hormonal changes can affect pelvic floor tissues and increase the risk of prolapse.
  4. Genetic Predisposition: People with a family history of uterine prolapse may be more likely to have this condition.
  5. Overweight or Obesity: Being overweight can increase the risk of uterine prolapse by putting extra pressure on the tissues that support the pelvic floor.

Types of Uterine Prolapse Surgery

  1. Sarkopekti: It is the process of cutting out the sagging parts of the uterus and placing the uterus back in place.
  2. Hysteropexy It is a procedure in which the uterus is fixed. The lower part of the uterus is attached to the pelvic floor.
  3. Laparoscopic Surgery: It is a minimally invasive surgical method performed through small incisions. Laparoscopic surgery provides a fast recovery and less risk of complications.

Recovery After Uterine Prolapse Surgery

After uterine prolapse surgery, patients are usually discharged from hospital within a few days. Full recovery varies from individual to individual, but usually takes several weeks. Following the doctor's recommendations and gradually increasing physical activity supports the healing process.
