Gestational Trophoblastic Diseases

Gestational trophoblastic diseases are a group of pregnancy-related disorders characterized by the abnormal growth of trophoblast cells. There are various subtypes such as mola hydatiform, choriocarcinoma, placental cytotrophoblastic tumor and trophoblastic neoplasia. Symptoms of Gestational Trophoblastic Diseases
Symptoms of gestational trophoblastic diseases can often include
- Vaginal bleeding, usually during pregnancy.
- Feeling of abnormal growths or masses in the uterus.
- High levels of hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin).
- Pelvic pain or discomfort.
- Pregnancy symptoms such as nausea and vomiting can only occur in the absence of pregnancy.
Diagnosis of Gestational Trophoblastic Diseases
The following tests can be used to diagnose gestational trophoblastic diseases
- Ultrasonography: Visualization of abnormal tissue or masses in the uterus.
- Blood tests Measurement and monitoring of hCG levels.
- Biopsy Removal of abnormal tissue and sending it for pathologic examination.
Treatment of Gestational Trophoblastic Diseases
Treatment of gestational trophoblastic disease depends on the type and stage of the disease and the patient's general health. Treatment options may include:
- Curettage Surgical removal of abnormal tissue and trophoblasts.
- Chemotherapy Chemotherapy may be used for aggressive types such as choriocarcinoma.
- Radiotherapy It may be a rarely used treatment option.
Prevention Methods for Gestational Trophoblastic Diseases
There is no specific prevention method for gestational trophoblastic disease. However, measures such as regular health check-ups and pre-pregnancy counseling can be taken.
