Atypical Endometrial Hyperplasia and Chances of Pregnancy: Fertility Preservation Approach
🔍 What is Atypical Endometrial Hyperplasia?
Cellular abnormalities in the endometrium tissue that forms the inner layer of the uterus are called "hyperplasia". Atypical hyperplasia is a condition in which there is both an increase in the number of cells and structural deterioration. This condition requires careful follow-up as it carries the risk of developing endometrial cancer in the future.
👶 What Does It Mean for Women Who Want to Get Pregnant?
Many women diagnosed with atypical hyperplasia also want to have children. In this case, fertility preservation methods are used instead of the conventional treatment of hysterectomy.
🩺 Who is fertility preservation treatment suitable for?
- Women who have not yet had children or want more children
- No evidence of myometrium invasion or invasion by MRI
- Compliant patients who can come to regular follow-up
- No invasive cancer detected by endometrial biopsy
💊 Which Treatments Are Applied?
- Hormone Therapy:
Most commonly used methods:
- Levonorgestrel hormone intrauterine device (LNG-IUS)
- Oral progesterone medicines (e.g. medroxyprogesterone acetate)
These treatments suppress and regress the cells in the endometrium.
- Close Monitoring:
- Endometrial biopsy every 3-6 months
- Pregnancy planning when recovery is detected
- In vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment can be supported if necessary
🤰 Is Pregnancy Possible After Treatment?
Yes. In patients with a complete response to hormonal treatment, healthy pregnancies are possible naturally or through in vitro fertilization.
🔄 What Happens After Birth?
After delivery, to reduce the risk of recurrence of the disease:
- Removal of the uterus (hysterectomy)
- Or the hormonal spiral is reinserted and close follow-up is recommended.
🧠 Remember:
Atypical hyperplasia is a serious but controllable condition. With appropriate treatment and careful follow-up, you can protect your health and realize your dream of motherhood.
